A Grilling Misshap

Remember how I said I stay away from the grill because I'm accident prone? Well, on Saturday, Bryan and his dad smoked a pork loin the size of my thigh (big). I prepared a nice mojo sauce as a marinade, and then we made our way to the pool. After a couple of hours, I was ready for my afternoon nap, and I was put in charge of checking the meat every half hour or so while the boys remained at the pool. The first couple of checks were uneventful.

Later on, I was hanging out in the living room when suddenly, I noticed through the window that smoke was billowing out of the grill at an alarming rate. I ran outside and opened the grill... and was engulfed in flames! The fat from the pork loin had dripped into the pan of water sitting in the grill and caught on fire! I tried to remain calm and figure out how to put out the fire (I was home alone, remember?!). After a few seconds of deliberation, I carried the giant fire pit from our porch over to the grill and lifted out the burning pan with the grill tongs, placing the flaming mess in the fire pot. And what do you know? It worked! The fire died out and the pork loin, albeit a bit charred, was still delicious.

I am, however, missing all the hair from my left arm. I received hearty congratulations from the Baucom men on putting out the fire without destroying the meat, but one thing's for sure: I won't be grilling by myself ever again!

Ah, a nice summer weekend is upon us. I plan to grill (or help prepare the foods that will go on the grill, because I believe that with my track record for accidents, fire is rightfully Bryan's domain) and lay out and work on my tan. Friends, after swearing I'd never wear a bikini again, I went and bought one from Target last night. I bought a bandeau top because I have a crazy halter tan line going on that I'd like to get rid of before the New York trip, as there will be multiple cocktail-dress wearing occasions during the week. I'm still a little hesitant to step out in the skimpy bikini, but both Bryan and Mom told me to go for it... so here I go.

I found these amazing hot dogs and buns at Target, by the way. Who knew you could have a hot dog for only two points?? They are on the grilling menu for this weekend for sure.

Have a wonderful weekend, friends!

It is a lovely, cloudy and cool day here in OKC. I am listening to the rolling thunder while I work. Bryan says to enjoy it while I can because temperatures are supposed to be over 100 degrees here for the next week!

Happy 28th Birthday, Bethy!
