I am so glad the long weekend is upon us.
I have funny tales to tell about last night. First, we have a bowl full of brown bananas at the condo. Last time that happened, Bryan threw them away, not knowing I had been thinking of making banana bread with them. So, last night, this was our conversation:
Me: "Hey, don't throw away those rotting bananas in there. I'm going to make banana bread with them this weekend."
Bryan: (puzzled) "Where?"
Me: (equally puzzled) "What do you mean, where? Here."
Bryan: "Do we have a bread machine?"
Me: "Oh, honey, you don't need a bread machine to make banana bread. It's more like a muffin-y cake; not a yeast bread."
Bryan: (skeptical) "Are you sure you should use those bad bananas to make that?"
Me: (incredulous) "Why, that's what you do with bad bananas!"
So funny, the male and female paradigms. But I'm surely going to keep that male of mine. Bryan did something so thoughtful for me last night: I was sitting on the couch, feeling all emotional and misunderstood and angst-ridden, meanwhile trying to discuss our weekend plans with him, when he got up, went to the kitchen and returned with a notebook. "We need to make a list of things that make you happy, and you need to do them when you start feeling depressed," he said. My list read: 1. cooking 2. reading 3. shopping. So, Bryan concluded that we needed to go shopping for things to cook. At 10:00 pm. We went grocery shopping together, right then. I bought some of my favorite things, including fresh basil, goat cheese and ingredients for my waldorf salad.
I also bought the book Traveling Mercies, because my friend Spring loves it. I started it last night, and I think I already love it too. So, I've taken care of my Happy List, which I intend to keep forever.
Have a wonderful, safe, blessed weekend.
