Mid Year Musings

Anyone notice that it's already mid July? How did that happen?! Bryan and I had a discussion about this recently and how it meant that 2010 is already halfway over. In January, our church presented a sermon over setting goals for the year called One Thing. In it, our pastor encouraged the church to not be overwhelmed by a list of resolutions for the year, but rather to pick one goal to pray over and implement for 2010.

After some individual prayer, Bryan and I both felt like our "one thing" for 2010 should be to make a significant change in the way we'd been managing our finances since we'd gotten married. So, we stopped using credit cards for purchases and then enrolled in Financial Peace University. Those of you who are familiar with that program know what I mean when I say that we are on Baby Step #2! We think it will take 16-24 months to reach our long term financial goals (not even touching the student loans yet!) but we're both excited to be on this path toward financial freedom. The Lord has already provided us with so much encouragement in this endeavor, and we ask for our families and friends to continue to pray for us during this time.

Looking back, I also realized that so far, 2010 has been a year of significant change and challenges. I have experienced a major illness, a death in the family, a job hunt and then a new job! That's a crazy six months. But through it all, my Heavenly Father has been with me, never leaving me to face my anxieties and hurts alone. I'd really like to have a season of peace in my life now, but I'm willing to tackle whatever the Lord has in store for the rest of the year.

To the next six months!
