Avoid the Donuts

I had another bird harbinger this morning. This one didn't come in my room, though. As I was driving to work, I passed a big, black crow with a whole donut in his beak. My first thought was "Where did he get that whole donut?" and my second was "Shouldn't that donut be soggy from the rain?" So strange. After I got to work, I looked up the symbolism of birds in literature. Apparently, birds usually symbolize the positive: enlightenment, prophetic knowledge, vision. Having seen The Birds in eighth grade with my friends Spring and Kari, though, I do not think that the crow with the donut meant anything positive. When I asked my officemate, Caroline, what she thought it meant, she said "I guess you shouldn't eat any donuts today." Fair enough.

This is our third day in a row of rain. The extended weather forecast shows five more days of those dark, rainy clouds. Makes me sleepy. Makes me want to eat a nice, toasty cheese panini and go back to bed.

So, last night was our first practice. I think it went very well. Lauren says that the girls are farther along than our previous team was this early in the year. We don't have another practice until officer tryouts in two weeks.

Have a good one. Don't eat any donuts.

Did you ever read the Rime [sic] of the Ancient Mariner? The bird in it--an albatross--is a sign of bad luck. I'm pretty sure crows are as well. A whole donut. That is hilarious.
