So, here's the weekend run-down: Friday evening, Mom and I drove to OKC in a weird misty fog that was the precursor to last night's ice storm, but more about that later. We met Lauren for dinner at Cheesecake Factory and then did a little shopping at Penn Square Mall.
Competition started early Saturday morning. The girls did really well on their jazz dance: no memory mistakes and only a couple spacing issues. They ended up placing 2nd in that category, which I'm okay with. I think we're going to add a little more difficulty to the routine for their next competition and have cuts again. I had to leave before their kick dance, but I was told they had several memory mistakes and little bobbles, which is frustrating since they've known the dance since October, but they still ended up winning that category. They have great kick technique overall, and I think that's what made them win. This is my first state win as a coach, so it was an exciting accomplishment. Also, my ensemble placed third! Very exciting for my little sophomores.
At 10:30 am, Mom and I hopped into the car and sped back to Tulsa for Hope for the Holidays, which went off without a hitch.
After that, I headed to the Baucom Christmas party. I have to be careful about what I say about the party, because I don't want to offend any one, so I'll just say that I'm still learning. And every family is different. And I'm still learning.
Sunday, the ice storm hit us. Bryan and I lost our power around midnight, along with around 100,000 other Tulsans. The condo is freezing cold and dark. I was happy to get to work were I have some measure of access to electricity and the outside world! The news says it could be ten days before power is completely restored. This could be an interesting week.
Have a good Monday, all!
