Bird's the Word

Third creepy bird incident! This one's the worst. This morning, my boss was driving the two of us to go observe one of our education and outreach programs we provide to Tulsa Public Schools. It's called Leaps in Motion, and basically, we provide students with two weeks of daily ballet classes. The last day, the kids invite their parents to a demonstration so they can show off what they've learned. So, we're on our way, talking about this and that, when we see a bird in the street ahead. Assuming the bird would fly away, (as reasonable birds do), Amy continued driving. We ended up going right over him, and then we felt a thud under the car, followed by the image of a poor flapping bird in the rear view mirror as we continued. We nailed him. Knowing my affinity for wild pigeons, my boss got really upset and kept apologizing to me for hitting him! I told her repeatedly that the poor bird was probably retarded or something and not to worry about it, as if hitting a retarded bird makes it better... Anyway, if killing a bird is supposed to be some sort of sign, I think I'm in trouble.

I had my first married kitchen disaster last night. I got a meatloaf recipe from allrecipes.com, which is usually a very reliable source for good recipes. This, however, was Rosemary Turkey Meatloaf, and it tasted awful! My instincts told me that a brown sugar glaze would not taste good with rosemary, but I figured that the 126 users that rated the recipe 4 out of 5 stars couldn't be wrong, so I went right ahead and poured the glaze on my loaf. Yeck! I even double checked the recipe afterwards to see if I'd messed it up somehow! I hadn't. So, from now on, I'm going to trust my instincts when it comes to herbs and seasoning... Luckily for me, Bryan isn't picky. I asked him if he thought it tasted gross and he replied, "It tastes a little sweet. Yeah, it's a little different." And then he got a second helping.

We're off to Oklahoma City tonight. Tomorrow, I'm going to get my diploma (in my kick-ass shoes), and then I plan to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. In moderation.
Have a great weekend!

I actually like meatloaf. It's a great comfort food. Funny that your Brian doesn't like it!

Awww... I have been burned a few times by allrecipes.com as well. I have taken to reading the reviews instead of just looking at the ratings, because lots of people rate it high, but in the review tell how they actually changed the recipe. If three or more people changed it, I go with the alteration usually. And that inner chef's instinct should be trusted!
