The Best Laid Plans...

My Easter didn't really go according to plan. First- and I'm warning you now that this may sound silly- my coconut cream pie was a disaster, albeit a good tasting one. For some reason, when I took the pie out of the fridge on Sunday morning to top it with home-made whipped cream and shredded coconut, I found that the lovely custard had turned to liquid overnight. It was like coconut cream soup in a crust. Bryan's family was very gracious about the whole thing, enthusiastically slurping their cold coconut soup from bowls, but I never quite rallied from the disappointment.

Then, when Bryan and I left for church on Sunday morning, our garage door got stuck. Not the kind of stuck where you can just pull the door down manually and be on your merry way, but the kind of stuck where it's all wonky and uneven and you have to strain to hold it up for twenty minutes while your husband detaches the metal cord thingy, all the while having cold rain from the door drip down your cleavage and red, Oklahoma mud dirty your church clothes. And I thought the pie put me in a bad mood!

Never in my 26 years of life have I missed church on Easter Sunday, so after that point, my whole day was totally shot. Luckily for us, our church is on the Internet, so we at least got to watch the sermon on our computer. Still, it wasn't the same as worshipping the Lord in His house on Resurrection Sunday.

The rest of my Easter meal turned out wonderfully, perhaps due to the glass of white wine my husband surreptitiously snuck into my hand while I cooked. Still next year, I'm going to buy a pie along with the ham!

I missed church on Sunday too. And I agree- watching online is nothing like being there. (Especially when Madagascar is on in the background for a 3 year old so Mommy can hear Pastor Craig! HA) Brian was really sick and I just didn't have the energy to get me and Ethan ready and to church on time.
